John R. Scott, born in 1923, attended Texas A&M and served as a bombardier on B24s in the Pacific in World War II. He married June Owens in 1947 and soon moved to Custer County, Montana and then to the Powder River. Afterward, he became quite a successful roper, competing as both a steer roper and calf roper. In 1980, the Scotts purchased a spread on the Concho River near Miles and moved back to Texas.
