Giles M. Lee spent most of his life on the Swamp Angel Ranch southwest of Lovington, New Mexico. His mother’s father had been stock farming and his father’s family had been in the cattle business for several generations.

After serving three and a half years for the Army in World War II, Lee returned to New Mexico A&M where he helped organize the college rodeo team. In 1948 he moved back to the Swamp Angel Ranch with his wife, Joie, and baby daughter, Elizabeth.

Throughout his life, Lee’s love for rodeoing and ranching has combined to make him a powerful influence in both. Today he serves on the board of directors of the National Inter-collegiate Rodeo Association Alumni, is a member of the New Mexico Cattle Grower’s Association – serving twice as Vice President – and has been honored as the Lovington Lions Club Conservation Rancher of the Year.
