Buster Welch

2000

It's an honor just to be mentioned in the same sentence with Foy Proctor. He was my hero. I credit him with teaching me more in a short time and setting an example and instilling a lot of confidence that I've carried with me all my life.

Buster Welch of Rotan, successful cutting horse trainer and rancher, also worked for Foy Proctor, starting at age 14. Now, the Welch ranches cover 50,000 acres (deeded and leased) between Snyder and Rotan, Texas. In addition to ranching for himself, he has also worked for the 6666’s, Pitchfork and King ranches.

Buster has been a highlight of the Foy Proctor Awards Ceremony for many years. His last visit to the Haley Library Foy Proctor Awards stage was in 2017. He will be forever missed.
